Workshop brought together ten renowned basic cancer researchers and oncologist from EU countries, Israel and Croatia: Seth. B. Coffelt,The Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Tanja ÄŒufer, University Clinic Golnik, Golnik, Slovenia; Aristides Eliopoulos, University of Crete Medical School and Institute for Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Heraklion, Creete, Greece; Joop Jansen, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre St. Radboud and Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences, Nijmegen, the Netherlands; Athanassios Kotsinas, National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Medical School, Athens, Greece;Sara Kozma, Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute - IDIBELL, Barcelona, Spain; Boris Labar, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Medicine, Zagreb, Croatia; Jonas Nilsson, University of Gothenburg, Sahlgrenska Cancer Center, Gothenburg, Sweden; Varda Rotter, The Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel; Robert Slany, Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen, Erlangen, Germany.
The workshop was divided into three sessions (haematooncology, translational cancer research and molecular aspects of tumourigenesis). After each session, a general discussion on different aspect of translational cancer research was held. More than 40 participants, composed of Ph.D. students, clinicians, post-doctoral fellows and researchers from different disciplines and institutions, gained an insight in novel discoveries in areas of targeting signalling pathways for cancer treatment, genomics and epigenomics in cancer, tumour microenvironment as well as inflammation and cancer.
